Tycoons losing streak at 6 as they fall to Warriors 6-4

February 23rd, 2024

Sitting in the league's basement, the Hong Kong Tycoons were just one point from the third place Kowloon Warriors in the SCIHL. The latter has elevated their play while the Tycoons, whom sat in second place in the league standings in December, have been in a free fall since the new year began.

Hong Kong started strong with Leon Ruelle potting the game's first goal on Kowloon goaltender Antoine Devolz near the 10 minute mark of the opening period. About 40 seconds after though, the Warriors would get on the board with David Belluche cutting laterally across the slot (as he so often does) and sniping it along the ice past Tycoons LPP goaltender Ray Loo. About a minute later, Belluche would find the back of the net again, closing out the period at 2-1 in favour of the Warriors.

Kowloon would continue its roll into the second period on Jake McDonnell's goal about four minutes into the frame. However the Tycoons cut the deficit back down to one on great effort by Ken Yee, as the pinching defenseman joined the rush, drove the net and tipped Leon Ruelle's shot-pass through his legs and into the net. The Warriors would regain their two-goal lead though as Blake Steele was sent on a breakaway by linemate Jake McDonnell, with Steele tucking it into the Tycoons' cage. In a bit of a back breaker for Hong Kong, they then allowed the final goal of the second period with just 5 seconds remaining as Dave Belluche would complete his hat trick, making it 5-2 for the Warriors.

Perhaps feeling a sense of urgency with their lackluster start to the second half of the SCIHL season, the Tycoons came into the third period with a bit of a roar. Connor Daly and Jeff Wall would each find the back of the net just 30 seconds apart, to pull within one goal on the Warriors. The Tycoons were pressing hard for the equalizer, however an untimely penalty would diminish their hopes. With less than four minutes remaining in the game, Jake McDonnell scored his second goal of the evening on the power play, putting the Warriors ahead by a pair. Kowloon would ride the two goal buffer till the end and finish the game with a 6-4 victory over the Hong Kong Tycoons.

Warriors stars Dave Belluche and Jake McDonnell finished the evening with four points each and Blake Steele had three points in the victory. On the other end, the Tycoons showed a lot of heart in their loss. Leon Ruelle and Connor Daly each had three points on the evening. Ruelle has consistently produced for the Tycoons in his first SCIHL season, while Daly now currently sits forth in league scoring.
